Leitcode barcode symbology, also known as German Postal 2 of 5 Leitcode, CodeLeitcode, and Deutsche Post AG, is actually an implementation of Interleaved 2 of 5 generally used by the German Post (i.e. the / Deutsche Frachtpost) for mail routing. Leitcode gives an indication of the destination.

Encodable Chars


Leitcode can encode numeric digits through 0 to 9.


Components

Leitcode can encode 13 digits plus 1 checksum digit. The contents are as follows:
5 digits: ZIP code / postal code (Postleitzahl, PLZ)
3 digits: street ID/number
3 digits : house number
2 digits: product code


Encoding Scheme


Leitcode uses the encoding scheme of Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode with a compulsory checksum digit of modulo 10.


Checksum Digit

According to the standard, Avapose products automatically add a mandatory modulo 10 check digit to enhance data security.
