As a 2D barcode type, Data Matrix in Word can encode following data mode, characters with valid data length conforming to its industry standards:
Data Matrix Valid Encoding Characters:
- Standard ASCII values: 0-128
- Extended ASCII Values: 128-255
Data Matrix Valid Data Length
Data Matrix Available Data Mode:
- AUTO --- The default encoding format
- ASCII --- For encoding data that mainly contains ASCII characters from 0 to 127
- C40 --- For mainly encoding numeric and uppercase characters
- TEXT --- For encoding data that mainly contains numeric data and lowercase letters
- X12 --- Used to encode the standard ANSI X12 electronic data interchange characters
- EDIFACT --- Used to encode 63 ASCII from 32 to 94 with an Unlatch character (binary 011111)
- BASE256 --- For encoding 8 bit values
Data Matrix encoding data can be influenced by those following factors:
- Apply tilde --- Tilde character (~).When enabled, the tilde character (~) is used to specify the special character in the input data.
- Data --- The data to be encoded. This property lets you encode desired data.
- Barcode Type --- Barcode types could be changed by setting this property, default value is Code 128.
Encode Data Matrix Data using Word Barcode Add-In
- Barcode Add-In for Word needs to be downloaded and installed at first;
- Install this barcode generator on your Word;
- Activate the add-in and choose "Data Matrix" in the "Barcode Type";
- Select a proper "Data mode" according to the data to be encoded like "TEXT" and enable "Apply tilde" if you want to specify the special characters in the input data;
- Input the data to be encoded like "word1234567" in the "Data" box;
- Customize the properties that are required and click "Generate" to display the created Data Matrix barcode.
Data Matrix Image Customization in Word

- Bar width (X) --- The width value of the barcode narrowest bar module (X).
- Image width --- The width value of whole barcode image.
- Image height --- The height value of the whole barcode image.
- Format mode --- Ranges from 0 (10X10) to 24 (144X144) and from 25 (8X18) to 30 (16X48).
- Left margin --- The value of the left margin.
- Right margin --- The value of the right margin.

- Select the generated Data Matrix barcodes;

- Customize the "Format mode" for your needed one like "25(8X18)";
