EAN-13 Add-In for Excel is developed specifically to help users of Microsoft Excel integrate EAN-13 barcode generation technology into applications. Using this add-in, users can easily generate and insert high quality EAN-13 barcode image on Excel spreadsheet with simple clicks. Various barcode sizing options like bar width, bar height, image width, image height and margins are customizable to meet any requirement.

EAN-13 Data Encoding in Excel
Excel Barcode Add-In supports more than 20 barcode types including EAN-13. Additionally, EAN-13 Barcode Add-In has the following characteristics.
Valid Characters to be Encoded:
  • Numeric characters from 0 to 9
EAN-13 Valid Subtypes and Data Length:
  • EAN-13 -A --- Basic type which supports 11 valid characters to be encoded excluding the last check sum digit;
  • EAN-13 +2 --- An extra 2 supplement data can be encoded as a supplement barcode;
  • EAN-13 +5 --- An extra 5 supplement characters can be encoded as a supplement barcode image;
As for encoding EAN-13 data in the Excel Add-In, the following parameters will be used:
  • Barcode Type --- Barcode types could be changed by setting this property, default value is Code 128.
  • Data --- The data to be encoded. This property lets you encode desired data; Default value is 12345.
  • Supplement data --- two or five numeric digits can be encoded if you set the subtypes of EAN-13.

Encode EAN-13 Data using Excel Barcode Add-In

  1. Barcode Add-In for Excel needs to be downloaded and installed at first;
  2. Install this barcode generator on your Excel;
  3. Activate the add-in and choose one of the three EAN-13 barcode types in the "Barcode Type" pull-down list;
  4. Input the data to be encoded like "EAN-13" in the "Data" box;
  5. Input the supplement data if required;
  6. Customize the properties that are required and click "Generate" to output the created EAN-13 barcode;
  7. Then you may link the created barcode into a certain cell with data using "Link to Cell".
EAN-13 Image Customization in Excel
EAN-13 barcode image allows changes to bar placement, human readable interpretation, and check sum digit displaying as well barcode orientation:
  • Rotate --- Barcode orientation can be changed into 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees; Default is 0.
  • Bar Alignment --- Bar placement can be customized into right, center and left inside the image; Default is Center.
  • Display checksum char --- Determine whether to display the last check sum character (s) in the barcode text.
  • Font --- Adjust the font style of the barcode text under image; Default is "Arial", "Regular", "9".

Customize EAN-13 Image with Barcode Add-In for Excel

  1. Implement the add-in to generate an EAN-13 barcode;
  2. Set the rotation angle of the barcode image into any valid angle such as "270";
  3. Select the proper position to put the bar module by setting "Bar alignment" such as "LEFT";
  4. Enable "Display barcode data" if you want to customize "Font" into your needed style such as "Calibri", "Regular", "12";
  5. Click "Update" where "Generate" is located for a updated barcode;
  6. Then you may link the created barcode into a certain cell with data using "Link to Cell".
EAN-13 Size Adjustment in Excel
During the implementation of generating EAN-13 on Excel spreadsheet, you may take the size of EAN-13 a concern. Then you may set the following properties to change the size of EAN-13:
  • Bar width (X) --- The width value of the barcode narrowest bar module (X); Default value is 1.
  • Image width --- The width value of whole barcode image; Default value is 99.
  • Supplement bar height --- the bar height of the supplement barcode which is the multiple of the Y dimension ranging from 0 to 1.0 inclusive.
  • Supplement bar space --- the distance between the end of the main barcode and the beginning of the add-on symbol, which ranges from 7X to 12X.
  • Bar height (Y) --- The height value of the bar.
  • Image height --- The height value of the whole barcode image; Default value is 60.
  • Left margin --- The value of the left margin; Default value is 0.
  • Right margin --- The value of the right margin; Default value is 0.
  • Bottom margin --- The value of the bottom margin; Default value is 0.
  • Top margin --- The value of the top margin; Default value is 0.

Adjust EAN-13 Size on Excel Spreadsheets

  1. Select the generated EAN-13 barcodes;
  2. Set the "Barcode width" into "88", "Barcode height" into "66", "Left margin" into "2", "Right margin" into "2", "Top margin" into "2", "Right margin" into "2";
  3. Adjust the "Supplement bar height" into "1" and "Supplement bar space" into "7";
  4. Click "Update" where "Generate" is located for a customized barcode;
  5. Then you may link the created barcode into a certain cell with data using "Link to Cell".
