EAN-13 Add-In for Excel is developed specifically to help users of Microsoft Excel integrate EAN-13 barcode generation technology into applications. Using this add-in, users can easily generate and insert high quality EAN-13 barcode image on Excel spreadsheet with simple clicks. Various barcode sizing options like bar width, bar height, image width, image height and margins are customizable to meet any requirement.
EAN-13 Add-In for Excel - EAN-13 Information
EAN-13 is a 13 digit (12 data digits and 1 check digit) barcode symbology which is a super set of UPC-A. It was developed by the International Article Numbering Association (EAN) in Europe and now is used worldwide to mark products which are often sold at retail point of sale. 2 or 5 supplement data may be encoded for a total of 14 or 17 data digits for EAN-13. These supplement data are usually used for periodicals, books or weighed products like food, respectively.
EAN-13 Valid Encoding Characters:
  • Numeric characters : 0 - 9
EAN-13 is a fixed data length barcode symbology with 13 numeric data including the last check character. In addition, 2 or 5 supplement data can be encoded as the supplement barcode.

Implementation Requirements:

Make sure the following are installed in your PC before you implement EAN-13 Add-In for Excel:
  • Microsoft Office 2007 PIA
  • .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
  • Windows Installer 3.1
  • VSTO 3.0 Runtime SP1
  • Avapose.Barcode for Excel

Generate a Single EAN-13 on Excel

  1. Open the target Excel spreadsheet and activate Excel Barcode Add-In by clicking "Create Barcode" under "Add-Ins" tab;
  2. Select a cell of Excel to insert EAN-13 to be generated;
  3. Choose "EAN-13", "ean-13+2" or "EAN-13+5" with your need in the "barcode type" pull-down list;
  4. Input data with your need in the "data" box, like "123456781234"(only 12 numeric digits are allowed to be encoded excluding check sum);
  5. Adjust the properties that are required like "Display checksum char", "Supplement data", "Display barcode data", "Rotate", etc;
  6. Click "Generate" to output the target EAN-13 on the chosen cell of Excel.
If the created EAN-13 cannot meet you requirement, you can click "Delete" and generate a new one or adjust the needed properties then click "Update".

Create a List of EAN-13 on Excel

  1. Open the Excel Barcode Add-In;
  2. Select a list of cells, choose "EAN-13" in the "barcode type" pull-down list and input the data to be encoded;
  3. Customize the parameters that you need like "Top margin", "Bar height", "Font", "Rotate", etc;
  4. Click "Generate" and a list of EAN-13 barcodes float on Excel as required.

Link a EAN-13 to a Certain Cell on Excel

"Link to cell" function allows users to link a generated EAN-13 to a certain cell with data, thus, the barcode can automatically update with the data of the linked cell.
  1. Select the generated EAN-13 and click "link to cell";
  2. Select the target cell with data;
  3. Click "Update" where "link to cell" button is located;
  4. The generated EAN-13 is dynamically linked to the target cell.
If the data of the linked cell changes, you can click "update link to cell" to automatically update the barcode image.
